Smell Younger

The most recent April edition of Allure magazine with Carrie Underwood on the front sure is jam packed with tons of great stay younger information! I think I've already read this issue twice trying to soak everything in!!

One of the biggest anti-aging "secrets" they revealed that reeeaaalllly caught my eye was some research was done that said, get ready for this...

Women who wear the scent grapefruit appear almost 10 years younger to those around them!!

WHAT?? And all this time we've been buying creams and makeup and Botox to look 10 years younger? And all we really needed to do was squirt on some grapefruit scented fragrance?! Luckily there are lots of options out there, two of which I personally own:

1. Dove's Go Fresh Body Mist in Grapefruit & Lemongrass ($5)-I own this.

2. Lavanila's Vanilla & Grapefruit fragrance ($58)-I own this.

3. Clinique's Happy ($30). I don't own this now, but I used to. This one doesn't surprise me, because every time I smell Happy, I think of myself as a teenager!! Maybe because this

came out when I was 19 (13 years ago-woah), so just before I left my teens;-) The pic up top is from an old Clinique Happy ad campaign of Miranda Kerr- doesn't she look cute and young?!

Sooooo, I'm going to test this theory and wear tons of my Lavanila fragrance and ask a random waiter at the next restaurant I visit, how old they think I am to see if this grapefruit thing really works. The only issue will be if I can get that person to get close enough to actually smell my neck before they make their guess- HA!! If looking younger is truly going to be this easy, I'm putting away the expensive retinol creams...or maybe keep them and tack on subtracting another 5 years off my age!

Girls Love Things That Sparkle :: LuShae Jewelry Review

I think I speak for a majority of females when I say, jewelry is a girls best friend, and sometimes best accessory (second to makeup of course;-))! There is nothing that puts me in a better mood than slipping something sparkly and shiny on my fingers, wrists, ears, or neck!! Or all of the above for that matter. The more bling the better I always say.

LuShae Jewelry was kind enough to let me pick my out my very own piece of jewelry from their fabulous specialty jewelry website, and mailed it right to my doorstep in a cute little box (mama always said "good things come in small packages," so true). WOW!! Browsing through this website was sooo much fun, but rather difficult for me to pick just ONE piece that I wanted to try out, bc there is so much stunning and wearable stuff.

I ended up choosing a sculptured 3 stone ring of jonquil, peridot, and amethyst made with white gold rhodium (cousin to platinum, but lots cheaper with the same shiny platinum luster!). This ring embodied everything I yearn to be- glamorous, with a little bit of edge, eye catching, and colorful! Now that I personally own a piece of LuShae Jewelry I can give you some honest opinions on this Australian company's products, excuse me, artwork- isn't jewelry usually a work of art??!

Here's what I love about this jewelry company and their website:

  • The pieces offered on this website are sooo unique and have something to offer everyone-from pendants, to rings, and earrings. There are trendy pieces, but also timeless pieces, truly something to fit every taste.
  • All of it completely affordable, but looks super expensive! Isn't that what we all really want in anything we purchase?? To not pay a lot, but look like we did! I was hesitant about what my ring might actually look like once I got it in person and put it on. Would it look cheap (it retails for $129) or look like a million bucks? It looks like a million bucks;-) I don't know how they keep their prices so competitive (and honestly really don't care as long as the savings are being passed along to me!), but I have a hunch it's because they do Internet sales instead of paying rent for store fronts like the other jewelry chains.
  • The website for LuShae jewelry is very user friendly. What I found the most enjoyable about the site is that each piece of jewelry is photographed crystal clear and has atleast 3 to 4 different views of each piece, so you see exactly what you're getting. The photo above is from the website and is one of four of the piece I chose.
  • Shipping was super quick. I figured I'd be waiting a week or two, and it literally got here within 5 days of ordering.

I promise you, if you're looking for unique, stunning, wearable jewelry that is gonna catch people's eye, visit this website and have fun browsing through it. I really think that my piece looks even better in person than it did online! (Just ignore my really bad manicure, or lack there of, on the photo above-you should be checking out the rocks on my fingers anyway!) I believe jewelry is a very personal purchase and says a lot about a person, just like the clothing and makeup that we adorn ourselves with everyday. The great thing about good jewelry is that it doesn't take a lot of effort to put on or apply, but the outcome once it's on is priceless in how it makes you feel.

Thanks again Sarah at LuShae for contacting me and introducing me to your jewelry. I couldn't be happier with the product I received!

Easter Bunny Blue Nailpolish

Easter is right around the corner and that means hello springtime colors!
I just love this precious and meaningful holiday and that it gives me a great excuse to wear lots of bright Easter egg colored makeup and nailpolish. My most recent purchase is Avons Nailwear Pro in color "lagoon" ($5).  It's a most gorgeous iridescent robin egg blue you could ask for.  So if you are too chicken to wear bright blue eyeshadow this season, just try it on your nails for a more safe but festive flair!!

Is Heidi Klum Human?

Okay, so I just read my newest Allure magazine for the month of April and in it was an article that caught my eye entitled "The New Age" which focused on experts in different fields of beauty explaining the most recent ways to look and feel younger.

And who do you know was the cover girl for this story, but none other than the female phenom/alien herself, Heidi Klum. The poster woman for anti-aging. I almost think she is getting younger looking if that's possible.

I have a healthy obsession with this woman. I will preface my comments by saying that obviously I do not know her personally (duh) and only can go by what I read and see about her on television and in print, but I do believe that she is one of the most well rounded females I've come across. I think I would put her in front of, uh hem, Oprah. Come on, the women has birthed 4 children (amazing in itself) and still has the body of a supermodel (superficial comment yes, but astounding nonetheless), is a TV host for Project Runway, business woman, designs a maternity line of clothing for Pea In The Pod & Motherhood, professional model (literally modeled for everyone and every product from Victoria's Secret to Ann Taylor), and is a wife. Whew!! All that accomplished by the young age of 36.

I mean, this woman loves being pregnant- 4 times at that- which takes the ultimate toll on a woman's body. And to see these Allure photos (check out this black and white photo below from the mag) makes me realize that either:

A. she has an amazingly strict diet and workout regime that I would want no part of -OR-

B. she is blessed by God with an amazing metabolism and natural ability to bounce back.

Either way, I hate her, no, not hate, but definitely envy her. Okay, it's not good to envy people either, soooo, maybe I should take the approach that she should be an inspiration to me after I have my third bambino in the fall to get off the couch and quit feeling sorry for my lumpy self;-) I think I am more and more intrigued by her every time I get pregnant!

If you don't get Allure magazine, listen to what she said in this issue that makes me think she is not human (if this picture above after having 4 children doesn't make you go hmmm, well then I guess I'm alone on the alien thought) and that my assumption of B. up top is correct:

1. When asked how she stays in shape, she said, "people would be surprised at how little I exercise" and goes on to say the last time she ran was 6 weeks ago. Ugh. So does breathing make Heidi Klum skinny?

2. When asked does she ever diet and what does she eat, she says, "I've never gone on a diet to lose weight but have taken a few things out of my diet" and "sometimes I'll eat a Big Mac and I love chips. " I really wanted her to say that she only eats grapefruits and drinks water to maintain that figure. Because I eat Big Macs and my body doesn't turn out like that.

I'm sure a lot of Heidi's good fortune in the looks category comes from good old family genetics. And this woman literally seems happy and content with life all the time, every time I see her on TV and in celeb mags. She did say in Allure that she likes pictures of herself when she's smiling bc she feels "it shows her personality" and that she's "always trying to have fun." A professor of psychology named Christopher Peterson said in this Allure edition, that optimists tend to look better as they age, so smiling definitely helps create the positive mentality.

So there ya go- the ultimate secret to looking as good as Heidi Klum. JUST SMILE.

Sultry Makeup Like Nicole Scherzinger From Dancing With The Stars

I heart Dancing With The Stars and am so glad that it's back on TV with Season 10, woo hoo!!!!

And one of the main reasons I love this show is because of, shocker, the makeup. The makeup artists are typically really over the top with the makeup they apply on the female celebs and the professionals, but this year they seem to have a taken a little rest. The females look pretty and dramatic but not like drag queens-how refreshing. Even Pamela Anderson looked pretty decent except for her wild messy hair, but that's another story.

My favorite female celeb dancer this year is Nicole Scherzinger from the Pussycat Dolls group. She is naturally stunning so the makeup artists probably didn't have to work that hard on her for the show. Even though I couldn't find any recent photos of her from the show last night, I had to try and recreate a Nicole-like makeup look from a photo I found of her online. (Granted I don't have the Hawaiian/Filipino descent working for me like she does, but I did my best- we are the same age of 32 though! Also tried her serious yet pretty facial expression, mine not so great, but again, gave it my best attempt!)

There are really about 3 specific makeup looks you need to conquer to mimic Nicole's face:

  • dark brown or black eyeliner.
  • tanned bronze skin.
  • nude pearlized lips.

Here are the main products I used to accomplish this look:

1. Dark brown eyeliner thanks to- Lancome's Le Crayon Khol in "black coffee" ($25). Make sure to line the top and bottom inner rims of your lash line to get her dark eyes.

2. Tanned bronze skin thanks to- Max Factor's Color Genius Mineral Bronzer in "sun kissed" ($10) all over. And Too Faced Snow Bunny Bronzing powder ($27) just on cheekbones and over eyebrows and swipe on top of nose. Her dewy skin is really what makes this look so fascinating for me.

3. Nude pearlized lips thanks to- Too Faced Girls Dig Pearls lip gloss, color Pink Bling ($18). This stuff actually has crushed sea pearls- oooh how fancy!!

I think Nicole will have a leg up because of her Pussycat Dolls experience of being in a girl band and dancing in videos, but we will see. She's got some stiff competition- namely 80 year old Buzz Aldrin- yes, the man who walked on the I'm not kidding. But kudos to him for giving this dancing show a whirl at his age-guess he's brave by nature since he was an astronaut! HA.

Birthday's Are Fun

I have been a little under the weather since Wednesday, so the blog has suffered (and me!), but luckily I think I am on the mend now after a busy weekend!!!
One of the bright spots has been my oldest son's 4th birthday party this past weekend. Jack's bday party couldn't have gone any better, because the weather was perfectly spring-almost summer-like and we had tons of kiddos, friends, and family in attendance!! I mean look how happy he is in this picture above, the smile is priceless and makes me feel better just looking at him.
So even though I didn't quite feel like myself, there's nothing like a good ole fashioned birthday party to get your mind off of being sick. I forgot I felt bad for atleast a good 4 hours!! This shot above is of me and some of my best girffriends and their daughters (one is my goddaughter!) who came to help Jack celebrate. I just love how my husband did this shot in black and white.
Cake also makes everyone happy, especially pregnant women (such as myself;-)) and children! This was a dinorsaur themed cake compliments of Publix- can you see the dinosaur skeletons and lava?? It might not have been the most beautifully decorated cupcake cake you've ever seen, but man did it taste good. Which is really all that matters when you're eating cake right??
Like I said, we were blessed to have so many friends and family show up for the birthday party, which made the celebrating that much sweeter. It's hard to wrap my head around being Jack's mama for four years already and I look forward to many more birthday parties with him.

I'm A Lucky Gal

I love all holidays because they usually give you a reason to decorate and dress yourself up in some sort of garb appropriate for that holiday! And St. Patrick's Day is no different. St. Patty's Day around my house is full of shamrocks, green sparkles, pots of gold (fake of course), and green clothing so we don't get pinched;-) I used to be slightly bratty back in grade school and high school because on St. Patrick's Day I would purposefully NOT wear green so people would try to pinch me, and then I would get onto them by saying I had "green" in my last name (my maiden name was Greenhaw) so I was always wearing green and Irish!!

I also like to think we have a "little bit o luck" floating around our house. I feel I am lucky to have a doting and talented husband, two beautiful & spunky children, a nice comfy house, wonderful parents and in-laws, and of course a wonderful creative outlet/job ( I hate to ever call what I do, a JOB, because it's more fun than work!). We are also VERY LUCKY to be adding another little angel to our family this coming fall!! The more the merrier, right??!

Just thought I would share a couple things from my lucky day. My boys had a great day at school (obvious from the smiles above huh?) and made leprechaun hats, shamrocks, and pot of gold posters with rainbows. The only thing green I couldn't get them into today were green vegetables!

And of course, I had to be a bit cheesy and go green on my eye makeup!! The best way to pull off super green eyeshadow is to tone it down by pairing it with a little bit of brown or taupe shadow. I used Rimmel's Spark It Up eye liner in color "peridot" ($4) along the upper lash line. I then followed that from lash line to crease with Bobbi Brown Bright's Palette ($70) color "shamrock" (how appropriate) then just blended MAC's "soba" ($14.50) in the crease only.

"Luck O The Irish' to you all and drink some green beer for me since I can't in my prego state!!

Cut Your Makeup Time in Half

Most of us who are strained for time in the morning- I'm sure that would be about 99% of you- need a makeup product that does two things at once. And I'm also sure that most of us would like to find that duo product in a product that we ALREADY own, without having to buy another expensive product.

I was feeling creative-and thrifty- yesterday and was sifting through my lipstick drawer (yes, I have a bathroom drawer devoted specifically to lipstick and glosses) to find a color that could work on my cheeks as well as my lips. I was super bored and tired of using the same 3 blushes all the time...can you tell??!

So I came across one of my fave colors that literally goes with almost everything I put on, Estee Lauder's Pure Color lipstick in "Sugar Honey" ($22). It's the perfect combo of a brownish rose color with a hint of gold in it.

So I thought to myself, "if this is my go to color whenever I put on a t-shirt or a dress, then why shouldn't it work for my cheeks as well?" That's how I knew I had a duo product. This color is not too dark, not too light, not too matte, not too glossy, just creamy enough to mimic a cheek stain. And best of all, I don't even need a blush brush to apply it! I used it directly from the tube for both lips and cheeks, and just rubbed it in real good with my finger when doing the cheek thing.

Check out my photo of me wearing my new/old lipstick as cheek color too- turned out pretty good huh?? So my advice to you if you want a new quick look, but don't want to go pay for one, sift through your makeup drawer and play around with this idea.

Let me know what color you find does "double duty"!!

Lady Gaga Does Good With MAC Viva Glam

I am a sucker when I go to the MAC counter. It's kind of like when I go to Target, I cannot get outta there with only one item.

I went specifically to only buy another tube of Russian Red (blog on this fab red color to come) ($14), when I was sucked into adding on a tube of the new pinky Lady Gaga Viva Glam lipstick ($14)! When I asked the girl at the counter if she thought I could pull off this white, lilac based cotton candy pink with my fair skin, she said "of course you can- and it's easily changed around by the use of different liners." I'm a sucker- SOLD. And when she said all 100% of the proceeds go to the MAC Aids Foundation, I figured, I could do some good while looking good- what a fabulous combo!

Here's my photo of me in my new Gaga lipstick, what do you think? It is very moisturizing and creamy which I love. I wore it over my already red lipstick when I left the counter, and it turned my red into a bright raspberry- cool. Then this picture is me wearing it later on in the night with my hubby along with simple black liquid liner and Tarte cheek stain in "flush" ($30). If you want a natural subtle pink, this color is definitely NOT that- it's obviously theatrical but completely cool and edgy.

I mean, with a campaign that includes two of the hottest rocker chicks on the planet, Cyndi Lauper and Lady Gaga, why wouldn't you want to have a piece of their coolness?? "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" with makeup, right?! Ha, couldn't resist...

The Key To Pulling Off Smoky Eyes In The Daytime

I cannot believe it's taken me this long to figure out the key to wearing and pulling off a smoky eye during the daytime.

Are you ready for this big reveal, humongous secret, major makeup trick that I'm about to bestow upon you??!! The key to not looking too crazy and made up during the daylight hours, but still looking extra sexy and sultry, is to NOT WEAR EYELINER with your smoky eye!!!

Ah Ha-Genius!!! Yes, I've been doing this makeup thing for a reaaaally long time, and wearing the smoky eye look for just as long, but this just dawned on me. And since I don't personally care about looking too "made up" because hey, I'm a makeup artist and that's my gig, I know a lot of other women want a more low key version of the smoky eye that can be worn throughout the day and not just for special occasions or in the night hours. So that key is to skip the eyeliner part.

**Another key element is to NOT wear black shadow or dark browns, which can appear too harsh. That's why I chose a smoky purple and grey color, since you're smudging these colors all around your eye, you want them to be on the lighter side so as not to appear too heavy.**

So here's my daytime smoky example I wore the other day. I think it turned out pretty great. I literally only used 2 shadows:

It was super easy since I didn't bother with any eyeliner step. Simple tutorial: I just put the purple "skiba" from lash to crease, then the "obsidian" just along my upper and lower lashes (it's the darker smoky grey color and basically acted like my eyeliner), two coats of mascara on both lashes and voila, a sexy but subtle smoky eye!

Who knew a smoky eye could be soooo simple?? You can thank me later;-)

Temporary Tattoos By Chanel, Not Just Childs Play

There is something fun and exciting about putting temporary tattoos on. I don't know if it is because of:

1. the rebellious feeling you get by looking tough like you endured hours under a tattoo gun OR

2. just because it takes you back to your childhood when it was fun to adorn your skin with kooky and colorful artwork that made you feel like you just came back from a fair or the circus!

Either way, I know my kids (and I!) love applying temporary tattoos just for the sheer fun of it. Even though I have a real deal tattoo, I still love the fake kind that can be mixed and matched and removed.

So when I came across some photos of the Spring/Summer 2010 Chanel runway shows that had all the models adorned in fancy black and grey temp tattoos , I thought, "that is a brilliant accessory!" Instead of lots of jewelry, makeup, stockings, gloves, fake tans, they just used tattoos to decorate their skin. The global creative director of Chanel, custom designed

these tats to include the signature CC logo, oriental cherry blossoms, chains, and birds. These were placed all over the models bodies, from the backs of the legs (being shown in summer mini skirts, very sexy!) to the shoulders, across the collarbones, and around their wrists.

These little pieces of body art are available to the general public for a pretty penny- $75 for 25 designs in 5 sheets- but what do you expect- it's Chanel, not the Gap. And although $75 for

anything with the Chanel name on it is probably considered a steal, I don't know if this
something I could sink my teeth into. I think my money is better spent on Chanel makeup brushes or a bag that will last more than a few days! So even though I may not have money to rush out and buy these little pieces of art, I still think they are cool and a brilliant runway idea.

What is your take on these designer temporary tattoos??

Oscar Worthy Makeup From Zoe Saldana

I don't have the statistics of how many people tuned into the Oscars last night, but I know I sure did, and this year it didn't disappoint! The stars turned out in fancy Hollywood form and the women and men for the most part really glammed it up this year and didn't play it too safe. I mean, it's the Oscars, why wouldn't you just go for it instead of wearing a black dress?

Now when I mention the Oscars, I mean I enjoyed the hour of red carpet rundown before the actual program. Because let's face it, the actual Oscars is ah-hem, slightly boring! But I do love watching the celebs walk down the red carpet and seeing what they wear for wardrobe and hair and makeup.

And my JennySue Oscar for "BEST MAKEUP" on the red carpet goes to, Zoe Saldana, from the movie Avatar! Not only did her makeup look flawless and classic, but it was simple enough to go with her out there gorgeous Givenchy purple frock!

This dress was sparkly on top and flowy and layered on bottom, and reminded me of the

beautiful spring Violas in my backyard! The purples and lilacs of her dress complimented her skin tone so well, as did her glossy lilac lipgloss and taupe and lavender eyeshadow. (If you want sheer lilac lips like this, try Maybelline's Wet Shine Diamonds gloss in Luminous Lilac ($4). )

Crazy out there glamorous dress + simple pulled back hair + fresh faced makeup = Perfect Red Carpet Equation! Way to go Zoe- you were the epitome of Oscar beauty in my opinion last night! I like a girl that knows how to balance her look.

Timeless Nude Lips

The nude lip is a tried and true, classic, and timeless look. EVERYONE can wear and work a nude lip and it can be worn with dramatic smokey eyes, soft neutral lids, shiny and glossy, or matte and creamy. It's a no boundaries look!!

So I got lucky during a trip to my local Target when I passed by the cosmetics area and saw a sale on the Jemma Kidd line- SCORE!! I obviously cannot pass by the makeup aisle without trying on or buying something, and today was no exception! Today I found a new nude lipstick I've been on the hunt for!

One of my favorite all time nude lipsticks (although the company describes it as "beige," which that description kinda turns me off, but whatever!) is "Totally Nude" by Too Faced Cosmetics ($18). My closest Sephora is over an hour away, so it's not the easiest for me to get my Too Faced lipstick. So when I saw Jemma Kidd's Classic Couture lipsticks on sale, I figured I would search for something close to my fave. Drumroll please, da da da dum, I found a new replacement shade and it's called "Muse" ($16). This color was supremely creamy and moisturizing and has the perfect amount of lustre without being too shiny like a gloss. It's perfect and I followed it up with my Urban Decay 24/7 lip pencil in "naked" ($17) to finish it off (I apply my liner on top of my lipstick so that it's not too sharp of a line, and creates a softer look.)

The beauty of this shopping trip though, was that my Jemma Kidd lustrous lipgloss was on sale for only $4!! That's right- I was shocked when I checked out- you can't get Bonne Bell lipgloss for that price! So go get yourself some cheap lipstick that feels expensive!

Oh, and check out my other great find I received last week from (another online retailer I'm a big fan of!)- my killer new black bling watch!! It's a men's black Geneva watch, and is lined in rhinestones and gold, which makes me feel super fab- and it's reeaaally big which I love! Got this gem for only $20 bucks and free shipping. If you're searching for anything, go on and I'll bet you'll find it! From bedding to blingy watches, they've got it all at super prices. And you know JennySue loves some bargains;-)

L'Oreal True Match Roller Foundation...Roll Away Waste

Okay, so if you're an avid JennySue Makeup reader or a friend of mine, you probably know how much I heart the L'Oreal True Match liquid foundation line. It's typically what I use on all my clients for most occasions, especially brides, because I love the complete color range of skin tones and the ease and blendability of this product. It's oil free and always looks super natural.

So of course when I saw that True Match was coming out in a "roller" form with a cool new applicator, I HAD to try it!! I mean Eva Longoria Parker looks fabulously flawless in the ad for it! With such an original wonderful product, how could they go wrong with this nifty little invention??

Here's what I found were the pros and cons to this new product:

Con- right off the bat, the price compared to the amount of actual foundation product you get is not the best bang for you buck. The original liquid foundation in the glass bottle is 1 fluid oz, at around $9. The new stuff is only 0.3 fluid oz, for $13. That's a $4 difference for less than half the amount of foundation. And you're paying for the dinky little roll contraption.

Con- next was the actual application process with the paint roller. At first it was

awkward because I couldn't figure out how to get the roller around the crooks of my nose and along my hairline without it getting it in my eyebrow hair and hairline bc my forehead was almost smaller than the width of the roller! After a couple days of use, I will say I figured out a way around these issues, but it's still not the easiest way to apply foundation despite the "roller hype!"Can you see how annoyed I look in the picture to the right?

Pro & Con- the color choices in the new product are not exactly cohesive with the old liquid line but close enough. I vary between wearing colors W2 and N2 right now from the liquid kind, so when I tried to match my color with the roller version, I had to go with N1-2, because some of them are split colors and they don't offer as many individual color choices. My pic shows my original N2 color on the left and the N1-2 on the right, pretty similar and not too much variation. However, the new roller kind goes on a bit thicker than the liquid and has to be blended more.

Overall Thoughts- I don't think the roller application is a revolutionary way to put on your foundation. I found it more difficult than a small sponge and took a lot more "rolls" around my face to get the application looking smooth. It goes to show you that change is not always good- I'm sticking to my old school liquid foundation with the tried and true sponge!
