Try Red Sunglasses Instead of Red Lipstick

Today was one of those days where I had zero to no time to primp or do hair in order to leave my house early enough to get my sweet 4 year old to his dentist appointment on time. I literally spent 5 minutes on my makeup, which is an unheard of amount of time for me. Yes, I do sacrifice some beauty time for my boys!! HA!!

So after his dental appointment, we made a quick stop over to our local Old Navy to look for some clothes for Jack and his brother, they have the best (cheapest) toddler clothes for boys. And of course, I got distracted by the $5 sunglasses display! Yes, run now to your Old Navy, bc how often can you find 5 buck sunglasses, that are actually pretty trendy?? To my delight, I found a humongous pair of red sunglasses that covered 45% of my face which was perfect since I didn't have any time to do makeup this morning!! And Jack decided he wanted to wear a pair of red Ray Ban-like sunglasses just like his mommy...he actually looked really cool!!!

Here are some Meanings and Symbols behind the color RED:
1. love
2. radiance & vibrant
3. boosts energy
4. protects
5. fire element
6. good luck
7. joy
8. happiness

My glasses reminded me of a photo I had seen of Anne Hathaway (above) wearing red rimmed glasses. I think this look is super hot right now for summer because they add an instant punch of color to your face without spending hours looking for and trying on various shades of red lipstick that works for your skin type!! I know finding the perfect red lipstick is a thorn in most women's sides, so here is your answer for not having to deal with red lips, do red glasses.

So of course I chunked down the $5 for these fab large glasses...for the next time I have to run out of the door without spending a lot of time on myself but still want to feel sassy at 9am in the morning. And when I don't want to riffle through my 25 shades of red lipstick;-)

A Fresh Coat Of Paint

So obviously I've been lazy in the blogging world, but NOT lazy in my everyday life. With the new baby coming sooner than later, we've been furiously changing up rooms, redecorating, and of course re-painting! What doesn't feel better than a fresh coat of paint??!! It breathes new life in a room! My little girl is going to be getting herself a Tiffany blue room (actually Shermin Williams- "Holiday Turquoise to be exact) and it is turning out BEAUTIFUL!! And I couldn't resist the following switched up nursery rhyme...

(To the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star: "twinkle, twinkle, diamond ring, in a blue box tied with string, Tiffany's new princess cut, twice the size of baby's butt. twinkle, twinkle, show your spark, can't change nappies (diapers) in the dark." courtesy of This Little Piggy Went to Prada by Amy Allen
Non-concealed under eyes

Speaking of a fresh coat of paint to brighten things up, onto my new favorite yellow concealer. Nothing blatantly says, "I got zero sleep last night," or "I just got handed the bad gene card," when it comes to dark under eye circles. In my opinion, if you're not using even a little bit of concealer everyday, you're doing your face an injustice (note, my non-concealed eye beds up top). Using concealer is the easiest way to look rested in a flash!!

My concealed eye bed!!! Much Betta!!

And Cover Girl and Olay's Simply Ageless concealer in color 230 Corrector ($10)

is my new best friend!! This pot of hydrating swirled yumminess is just what the doctor ordered for my dark circles. The yellow shade is perfect for just about everybody to help decrease redness and purple shades that come from the veins underneath our eyes. And of course, for staying power I add a few swipes of translucent powder to set it after applied. Extra Tip **If your dark circles are super scary, you can always add a regular concealer than is the actual color of your skin tone on top of your yellow for extra coverage. **

This is my fresh new face after my fresh coat of yellow paint over my dark circles! Don't I look well rested?! After almost a week long of moving furniture, well not me but watching my hubby move it, putting our two boys in the SAME room and praying they will sleep through the night, this face needed some concealer and hallelujah it worked! So try a fresh coat of paint today, your face will thank you for it;-)

5 Makeup Must Haves To Help You Look Good Under The Sun

It is ridiculously hot outside. And when it's this hot outside, it's not a lot of fun to put on a lot of makeup. Therefore, I haven't been lately.

But do I go without makeup, of course not, don't be silly!! I just go a bit more simple with the products I apply. And I will go ahead and apologize in advance for the silly faces these pictures provide. I did this in a hurry taking these pictures by myself before running off to take care of my sick child, so they're not the best, but you will get the idea!

Here are 5 favorite quick products to wear during this summer heat:

1. Waterproof cream metallic eyeshadow colour by Laura Mercier ($22). This formula is surprisingly stay proof and crease proof. And the metallic nature of it just adds a bit more fun to your eye bed since I don't use eyeliner or anything else on the eye bed. And you only need a little per eye like the amount shown on my finger. I also put some along my lower lash line with a synthetic bristled brush.

2. Waterproof mascara, Loreal Voluminous mascara ($8). I go back and forth with mascara favorites, and lately this has come back on top for me. It's an oldie but goodie.

3. My own made up tinted moisturizer which I've mixed up in an old eye cream container so I can always have it readily available on days like this when I want ease and lightweight coverage- take note, this is brilliant, ha!- a high spf moisturizer mixed with a few drops of my favorite shade of foundation and a drop of liquid bronzer (to give my skin a glow without have to go through the step of using powder bronzer later!). This literally has cut my skin prep work in half on hot days like today. (this sideways picture is an accident but I didn't have time to turn it obviously!)

4. Tarte cheek stain in Eco Cheek ($30). I like cheek stains in the summer bc they look very realistic and soak into my skin since I have super dry skin.

5. Lancome Juicy Tubes lipgloss in "simmer" ($18). This is one of the greatest summer colors because it's the perfect peachy shimmer and smells yummy. This color always ends up in the Lancome goodies with purchase during the summer, so I've yet to have to pay for a tube!

So 5 easy products to get my face summer ready in no time flat. Oh, and I have gotten sooo many compliments on my angel wing earrings I got at Charlotte Russe (their accessories are always 2 for $8-a steal) that I thought I'd show them off too. They've got some rhinestone sparkle that make them even more fun to wear!! Randomly, they also remind me of Nicole Richie's angel wing tattoos on her back (above). Yes, I know, random.

3 Simple Ways To A Sexier Face

Now that I'm almost 30 weeks pregnant, it takes A LOT to make me feel sexier than the beached whale I currently feel like. I know people say women have that "pregnancy glow" but that's not been the case this go around with my third pregnancy. I'm having to work REAALLLY hard to feel decently attractive in this heat!
Good news is though, I've found there are three simple makeup steps that can instantly make me feel a bit more beautiful and sexy than usual. Think Penelope Cruz, I think she's about as sexy as ladies get and always has the right balance of makeup on.
So here are my 3 easy steps to a sexier face:
1. Line your inner rims with dark charcoal (fair skinned ladies) or black eyeliner (medium to dark skinned ladies). This instantly gives you that sultry eye look without having to do much else. Make sure the liner is soft and waterproof so that this look sticks in the inner rim since eyes tend to water a lot. I like Sally Beauty's Palladio Herbal Waterproof retractable eyeliners ($5).
2. Create a naturally flushed cheek. Creams and gel blushes look more natural than powder blushes as long as your skin is not too oily (oil proned skin tends to end up looking more greasy than sexy with these formulas! Mark cosmetics Just Pinched instant blush tint ($7) provides that smooth sheer wash of natural color without the powdery makeup-y look.
3. Nude shiny lip works every time. My all time favorite gloss that pulls off sexy effortlessly is MAC cosmetics Viva Glam V Lipglass ($14). This is a neutral pearlized pinky shade. It's literally perfect for every skin tone and doesn't even need lipiner! If you don't own this color, you should.
I'm not saying I always end up feeling like pretty Penelope after these three steps, but I think I could give her a run for her money;-)

Happy Birthday To My Best-est Friend

As I grow older and experience more birthdays, I sometimes find myself wondering what kind of people buy those cards that bash having "yet another birthday!" You know those cards that complain about the terrible stuff that comes along with aging and adding another candle to the cake that requires a squadron of firemen to come put it out when all you really want to do is forget that you're having another birthday. Such Debbie Downer cards!

WARNING: Okay, I'm about to get pretty sappy with this blog. My husband's birthday is today, and I must say with all honesty, that I sure am glad and thankful that another year has passed by and that I get to celebrate "yet another birthday" with my best-est friend and the man I married almost 9 years ago.

It was truly love at first sight (I'm speaking for myself, I think the story is a bit different for him!) when I met my hubby 12 years ago, and the love/butterflies hasn't ceased since. I'm starting to appreciate birthdays on a whole other level now that I'm in my 30's and have 2.5 kids (one in the oven). It's not even about the presents and big parties anymore for me or my hubby- he's a big fan of us NEVER spending over $1.99 on a greeting card and it's beginning to rub off on me too. It's not about the fanfare, it's about letting the other person know how thankful you are that you got to spend another year with them.

If you don't celebrate every day like it could be your last, and I'm sure most of us don't, then you should atleast acknowledge on your birthday, or in this case someone you loves birthday, that you're pretty darn lucky to be growing another year older, becoming wiser, even getting a few gray hairs and wrinkles on your face, because all of these things tell a story.

And your story is building as you celebrate another year on this earth. I mean think about how your life changes so dramatically from year to year, it's amazing the things that can happen!! We are about to be a family of FIVE (wow that sounds like a lot out when said out loud) and never dreamed we'd one day be adding a little girl to our mix! That's her to the right, at our 28 week ultrasound. Pretty high tech and amazing huh?

I definitely know that my husband is getting better with age in many ways and the most obvious way is that he is becoming the best father our children could ask for. Every day is a learning process with children and a lot of the time, they are NOT easy processes. But my husband has somehow become the most tolerant, nurturing, patient, and loving man with our kids through each of their birthdays and his.

Now don't get me wrong, he was all those things when it was just me and him in our early years together, but time and children have certainly brought a new perspective and vitality to everyday life. I mean we were crazy enough to get the bright idea to put a 2 and 4 year old on a plane to visit New York City in a snowstorm just for fun, the memories, and the photographs to show for it!! But that's what I love about my hubby, is his quest to get his kids and me to experience all that traveling and life has to offer and not to sit back and get too comfortable with the humdrum everyday life. So Happy Happy Birthday Scott- I look forward to getting really old and wrinkly with you!! *Unless I do happen across that miracle cream to slow down the life process that is wrinkles...then maybe we can just get old together! HA!! You didn't really think I'd grow old without a fight??*

"You will find as you look back up on your life that the moments when you have really lived are the moments when have done things in the spirit of love." Henry Drummond

Fun With Bridal Party Makeup!

I have been kind of a slacker this past weekend in blogging, but have been EXTREMELY BUSY with work, kids, and life in general!! I'm sure this sounds familiar to most of you out there. Have you ever been soooo busy that you literally can't believe 5 days has passed by and wonder what you have to show for it??

Well luckily I have a camera that helps jog my memory as to what I've accomplished lately! And it includes some wedding makeup photos of some really sweet and beautiful gals!

Hair done by Kaleidoscope Salon in Athens, GA :: Isn't her white hair piece the cutest thing you've ever seen?? We really played up this bride's porcelain skin tone with some pink pink cheeks! I love the way her whole look turned out.

In the past few weeks I've been meaning to post some of my bridal party makeup pictures (these seem to be pretty popular and highly requested!) that I've taken myself throughout some of the past weddings I've worked on. So here you go if you are a potential bride or just someone who enjoys looking at happy ladies after they've gotten gotten their hair and makeup done!
*And while I'm on the hair + makeup bandwagon, let me say this. If you have one professionally done, you should have the other professionally done as well. Because it doesn't make much sense to spend a bunch of money on just one because then if the other is not up to par, it brings down the whole look of the other. It'd be like purchasing a nice expensive Mercedes then deciding to just use your old tire rims to put on that shiny new vehicle- it brings the whole value/look down! Okay, I'm down off my soap box, I'm done.*
This is a close up of Karen the bride's eye makeup. I loved that she wanted to me to step outside of the box slightly by including some heavier gold shadows and shimmers to her eyes which was actually a good choice for her blue eye coloring.
Next we get into three bridesmaids from another wedding I recently did. Hair is compliments of Mint Salon in Athens, GA. They really know a thing or two (or three!) about some up-dos! Granted a few of these pics are "hair in transition" so these aren't finished hair looks, but you can still tell they're going in the right direction!
I did some close ups of the eye makeup in addition to the full on face makeup. I loved the way this bridemaids eyes turned out with full on black liner rimming the whole eye and then gold shadow along the lower lash line.
I had lots of pretty blondes to work with at this wedding for sure! Aren't these ladies just gorgeous??! A lot of this beauty comes from the inside because these women were having such a blast getting ready together for this wedding that they were all smiles the whole time and truly enjoying celebrating together.
I always feel so lucky and fortunate to be able to make a J-O-B out of what I do for women with just a makeup brush and some products. Some say, "oh, you're so LUCKY that you get paid to put makeup on people!" Well yes I believe I am, but I also have heard that "luck is indeed where preparation meets opportunity." (quote from my fave inspirational book, The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch) Which I couldn't agree more, because I've been "preparing" for this job since I was a tiny dancer on the theater stage applying my own bright red lipstick and eyelashes!!!

Peaches 'N Cream Makeup

So I am a child of the 80's and was admittedly a Barbie fanatic. I owned all the Barbie's I could get my hands on (or that my parents would buy me) and the accessories that went with Barbie a girl could have, and then some.

But I will never forget my all time favorite Barbie, Peaches 'N Cream Barbie, circa

1985. She had the big 80's frock with a stole you could wear in different ways, a sparkly bodice, and big blonde hair with tan skin and peach cheeks and lips. She was beautiful, I wanted to be her. Well, no not really, I was raised with a grounded understanding that I was stuck with dark brown hair and eyes with a stick figure, but that's what God gave me and I was just happy to have Barbie to play with;-) Also I knew her figure was unrealistic...hello, she's a DOLL, and that her golden hair was synthetic. I'm so sick of hearing the controversy that some parents feel Barbie sets a bad standard for little girls and an unrealistic approach to beauty. Again she's a DOLL. My parents did not raise a delusional little girl who thought she needed to live up to the standard of a manufactured plastic toy..cough cough, Heidi Montag.

So this leads me to the peaches and cream look that was inspired by Peaches and Cream Barbie that I just found a collector edition of at my local Kmart for $45. Yes, I said Kmart. They have a new Barbie collectible line of some of the most popular Barbies from different decades. And no I didn't buy it bc I'm going through a weird 30's phase, I bought it for my daughter (who is due in a few months!) to have and enjoy when she gets of age and can understand mommies obsession with this popular doll.

The 3 main components you need to get a peaches n cream look are:

  • The Peaches come into play with peach CHEEKS and peach LIPS. I just got the most perfect peach blush (no shimmer in this like the Orgasm by Nars) that is matte, just like Barbie's plastic face! Ha!! It's by Sonia Kashuk, her beautifying blush in color "melon" ($9). This is a great flat alternative to Orgasm since I'm about to share with you my shimmery eyes and lips- you don't need 3 shimmery things on a face!!
  • The Cream comes into play on my eyes. The main component is of course, Stila's Kitten eyeshadow pan ($18) worn wet, which gives it more of a glow and deeper creamy champagne look. This is my all time favorite eyeshadow color, which I'm sure if you follow my blog, you're sick of hearing about this color by now!!!

So there ya go, a Barbie inspired look minus the powder blue shade of eyeliner on the actual doll. I just couldn't go there- I did have children to tote around and pick up from summer school so I chose to forgo that aspect of the look. Like I said, I'm not a delusional Barbie wannabe!!

JennySue Makeup Product Review :: Eyedews-Under Eye Mask

I work with a whole 'lotta brides, and most of them have one thing in common... Dry puffy eyes the morning after their rehearsal dinners. You know, puffy from all the crying due to the nice things friends and family are saying about you and your fiance and then a bit dehydrated maybe from a bit too much champagne/bubbly!!

Luckily, just in time for the wedding party I worked with this Saturday, I was sent a most wonderful product JUST for the problem my brides usually have to deal with (Big thanks to you Victoria!!). These little gems called, Eyedews, and are "soothing morning after eye-dration" for your tired eyes.

Courtney (the beautiful bride!) agreed to let me apply these collagen and aloe packed pads out on her eye beds before we started her bridal makeup. The ingredients literally feel very liquid like when you apply them to your eyes, but instantly soak right into your skin. I took some before and after photos of my bride and during her Eyedews experience and got some glowing feedback from her....and myself!

DURING EYEDEWS

I did try some out for myself the next day after her hearing her excitement for them and I totally agreed with how wonderful these things are. These on-the-go pads can be applied whenever you have just 15 to 20 minutes to slap them on. I could really feel the difference in how well they refreshed my under eyes and also how they truly do a great hydrating job. Which is key when you're applying lots of eye makeup and concealer/foundation to brides eye beds before their photos!

I did have to post some after after photos of Mrs. Bride herself after Eyedews and after JennySue finished up her eyemakeup and eyelashes!

AFTER EYEDEWS & JENNYSUE MAKEUP!!

Doesn't she look gorgeous, well rested, and ready to get married?!! I don't think these wonder pads are available here in the Athens or Atlanta area-yet- but you can find them on their website. They are now being used in casino salons and spas for clients, but I would totally use these things at home for whenever I need a quick pick me up for my face.

Here's my plea- "Eyedews, come to the South, pronto!! I don't think my hubby and I will be re-doing our nuptials or wedding festivities again anytime soon, but I am going to need a pair of these everyday once my baby is here in the next couple months to hide the sleepless nights that will no doubt show up on my face!"

Life Is Short, Be Silly, Wear A Moustache

I know I stray at times from the whole makeup aspect of my blog, but there are some things that just strike me as funny or just plain interesting, that I have to share that have absolutely nothing to do with makeup. But it's my blog, so I can do that right?! HA!

So the other night my husband and I went out to eat with our two boys, ages 2 and 4. Which if you have children or younger siblings, you know can be hit or miss with how relaxing or easy the dining experience can go...it's a toss up. But our meal actually went pretty smooth this time with very few tantrums as to what type of beverage each would drink, who would color with which color crayon on the paper menu, and how long they could actually stand to be sitting in their seat.

At the end of the meal, we were walking out of our neighborhood Loco's Grill & Pub (it's a very family friendly place here in town, because it is usually LOUD!) when my 4 year old AND my husband who both can't walk by a gumball machine without stopping, decided to put a quarter into the "moustache machine." Yes, instead of using their money to buy Skittles or

rings, they chose to buy the fake moustache in a can, a la Tom Selleck (the ultimate 'stache man on the right). We all took our turn at trying on the funny black caterpillar looking thing and it gave us all a good laugh for atleast 10 minutes while making our way to the car.
* Allure's June issue just mentioned in an article, "50 ways to burn calories" that the #8 way to burn up to 50 calories is to laugh for 10 to 15 minutes per day. Done, I just burned about 5 french fries off my dinner, sweet!)*

Point of the moustache story:

It showed me that even though we all looked completely ridiculous, we didn't care about the stares we were getting from the other patrons walking into the restaurant because we were having such a good time! We should all be silly sometimes because life is too short to be serious all the time. I think a lot of us expend too much energy worrying about how others will perceive us or what they think of us (yours truly guilty!). We'd probably all be more effective and happy in our daily lives if we didn't spend so much time worrying about what others thought of us and just went with our gut or with what makes us happy. I'm not saying you have to go out and find your own fake moustache to brighten your day, but try to do something that is lighthearted or contains a little bit of comedy to help bring some sunshine into your day.

Sweet Award!

So I just got my first blog award from a sweet fellow blogger that I follow!! Thanks a ton Crystal S.!! I love following your blog and recommend it to all my readers who love makeup as well.

To accept this award, one must:

- Give this award to ten sweet and friendly bloggers. (Although, I must admit, I don't follow 10 people yet that I feel deserve this "sweet" award, so I only did 5! Hope I didn't break the rules too much by half-ing it, but it's okay to break the rules sometime;-))

- Create a post about the award including its picture and mention the person(s) whom awarded it

- Put the award on your blog

- Let your nominated ten (or 5 in my case!) know you have awarded them by leaving a comment

* Dao from my makeup blog

*Abbey from dylanbluephotography

*Jen from loveofbeautyistaste

*Mischo from mischobeauty

*Hannah & Rosanna from littlemissdressup

And speaking of "sweet," I just found a sweet new lipstick color that is rocking my face. It's one of those freebies from Lancome, but will totally be worth a purchase, NOT in the cheepy pink case!! It's a Color Design lipstick in "Designer Bloom" ($22), which is the perfect semi sheen

finish, not completely sheer, terracotta peach-ish lipstick that brightens my face up immediately.

It's a warm lipcolor that has the slightest bit of pink to keep it from looking muddy on the face. Just check me out- how happy does this "bloom-in" lipstick make me look?!! I actually don't even have on lipliner with this which makes it look even fresher and not so made up...since the rest of me is pretty made up;-) HA!

Have a Sweet Day everyone!
