Peace, Love, And Purple Eyeshadow

As a mom of 3, I'm ALWAYS trying to keep the peace around my house.  This is almost too often extremely hard or impossible to do. However, I'm no quitter.  And when the going gets tough, I usually lock myself in the bathroom and start putting on lots of makeup to calm my nerves (ok, I don't literally lock myself up, but I do disappear into the bathroom with the door open in case things get hairy!).

"Peace be to this house" artwork done by my 3 year old at school. I hope he decides to take this saying to heart.
"Great Behavior" chart done by me, mom, to try and reward peaceful behavior between my 2 boys for a whole week!!  Charts really work like a charm for my kids!
Both are displayed on the family fridge that gets looked at daily as a constant reminder!!

As of lately, my two boys have become the best of friends AND the worst of enemies throughout the day.  One moment they're playing nicely like perfect little angels entertaining one another, the next they're in a tug of war over one single matchbox car out of the 200 we own.  Nothing makes me more crazy than to see my children bicker, argue, and whine with one another (maybe because I grew up an only child!!).

So what do I do to calm myself during this sibling rivalry- I put on my favorite shade of eye shadow- PURPLE!!  And if you like the color purple too like I do, Estee Lauder's nail lacquer in purple passion is an amazing color for your fingertips or you could add some purple shades to your home to cheer up the place according to House Beautiful!!

My happy shade of shadow- bright purple!!

See how happy this purple shadow makes me?? You can see the peace in my eyes-ha!!

Purple is a great universal shade of shadow that literally everyone can wear and it is an instant pick me up in tough times;-)

Here's what  I am wearing:
  • one single shade of purple, Kat Von D's "babe" from her True Love palette ($24) along with
  • black liquid eyeliner on top, Kat Von D's tattoo liner in "trooper" ($18) and
  • black waterproof eyeliner from Avon's glimmersticks along the bottom waterline
  • black mascara, L'Oreal Voluminous mascara
  • white shimmer shadow from Kat Von D's same palette in "missy" in my inner corners

Here's my step by step on my peaceful purple eye look...

1.  Apply purple shadow from lash line, just right up to the crease, no further.  Keep it tight.

2.  Apply your regular black eye liner along the inner rim of your lower waterline.

3.  Line your upper lash line with your liquid liner and wing ever so slightly at outer corners.

4.  Go over the upper and lower black lining with the same bright purple shadow you did on the crease to lighten the overall look of the black.

5.  Two coats of black mascara then your white shimmer shadow color right in the tear duct.

6.  My peaceful purple look.  My shimmery cheekbones are a bonus, thanks to Too Faced Pink Leopard bronzing powder ($29)

How do you keep the peace in your house??  What eye shadow color are you passionate for- is it purple or another fab shade??  Sound off ladies- I want to hear your take on both!

(Peacefully) purring at this gorge look! With V being 2, it's all about changing her surroundings, getting down to eye level, and talking about better ways to act in those situations. Or, just walking away. Let's face it...sometimes trying to deal with it at that moment just makes it worse! Will so be using your chart idea when D is older. For now, the worst thing he does is spit baby food back out, but who can blame him - he's still learning to eat from a spoon :)

Thanks Alison! Yes Viv is verrry busy, but honestly it's the two boys that have a hard time keeping the peace around the house- because they're more verbal;-) But charts are amazing, and you give a kid a sticker to work for, and they're like putty in your hands! Def try it the older your D gets- I can thank Super Nanny for the chart idea!!

Pinterest has great ideas for getting kids to behave.
Are they opposites? My sis and I are, so we fought all the time growing up.
And purple is the color of royalty, so you are showing those kids who's boss by wearing it!

Thanks Bruce, I like to keep the tutorials as simple and easy as possible to follow- so glad you thought so!

Elle- goodness yes my two boys are opposites- like night and day!! I love Pinterest, but haven't check it out for kid behavior purposes, so guess that will be next on my list!! Please tell me you and your sis grew out of your fighting days...please!!!

That's so funny, I grew up an only child as well and get totally upset and worried when my kids fight (ages 5&3) thought it was just me! My husband has two brothers and they all faught constantly growing up but they all grew out of it... eventually! :) Purple is my go-to favorite for eyeshadow too! Great post!

If it helps, my brother & I used to fight like cats & dogs, but adore each other now.

Love the purple eye shadow! I wear it moreso in the spring & summer, then turn to plums in the Fall. I don't know why though. Purple makes the whites of my eyes pop, regardless of season. Gorgeous look Jen!

@Marisa- it is quite a shock to see all the bickering btwn our kids since we were only children, right??!! We had no one to fight with growing up! Always learning something new with these little ones- I'm so happy mine have each other though aren't you?? Even through the knock down drag outs!

@Ally- thank God they grow out of it, I'm hoping they will love each other as much as I love them individually!! Yes, purple makes everyones eyes pop as long as the right shade is used!
