How To Create A Lady-Like "Mad Men" Makeup Look

There has been a lot of TV love shown towards the AMC series, "Mad Men" as of recently, and I think a lot of it has to do with the show's amazing authenticity of following the style of the 1960's thru hair, makeup, clothes, set design, and so on.   So I figured another great video installment would be to show you how to recreate your own version of a Joan or Betty!

{My fave red head, Christina Hendricks (Joan), in the ultimate 60's style.}

If you're not super familiar with the background of this series, check out this in depth breakdown of characters and plots thru Wikipedia and it will definitely catch you up to speed.  In the meantime, here's a video tutorial to show you some easy makeup techniques for pulling off a polished Mad Men lady look!

Do you tune into Mad Men??  Which female is your favorite character and why?

I'm a huge Mad Men fan! We just threw a party for the premiere a couple of weeks ago. I much more loved the fashion & makeup of the 50's during the first 4 seasons, then I do now that they're finally in the 60's, but it's still so pretty. And your winged eye is perfection. I'm seriously in awe of how simple you make liquid eyeliner look to apply. I'm going to practice your short quick strokes though and see if I can copy your method. I love how bold liquid eyeliner looks!

Loving all of these vlogs Jen - thank you! Although I'd love to see a cameo from Miss Vivi just once ;)

This is amazing! Thank you. I'm slightly obsessed with Mad Men. I have two favorites... Joan and Betty. They are both so captivating. :)

@momto8- you are hilarious, I'd be way too nervous for TV!! I can barely get thru these videos being alone in a room by myself, ha! But thanks for the sweet comment.
@Ally- I realized after reading a few things about the show's history that they started off in the 50's and had now progressed to the 60;s- that's too cool you did a premiere party. practice practice on the liquid liner, it's not easy, but short strokes will make it happen, promise
@Shannon- I agree, both ladies are stunning and very intricate characters:)

Thanks for stopping by - I love Joan too and wish her character would really take off. You do the eyeliner soso well - I have no eyelids so its hard to apply.i got a make-up person at Mac to do it for my b-day. And I def found at my recent 50th birthday (Mad men theme) that the old style red lipstick can be a wee bit ageing.

Love this look! I am an eyeliner fan! I always go to the end, I am going to try your way!

@Aboutlastweekend- true, sometimes a reaaally red mouth can be aging if the rest of the makeup is overdone for sure!
@BabyShopaholic- thanks a lot! Glad you liked this, you should def give the short strokes a try with the liner, it works wonders and takes the heat off of trying to do a continuous straight line!
