Product Review :: Motives Cosmetics

My box of *Motives Cosmetics couldn’t have come at a better time, as I have been feeling a wee bit  bored with my current products.  Gasp!!  This is kind of a big deal since I own a gazillion products in my makeup kit – I should honestly never get bored.  Motives isn’t heavily advertised from what I’ve seen, but it certainly should be so that more people could know about it.  My look I created using the following products will confirm why.

 {Four main products used to get my exciting new look.}
This is a brand I had heard about only because I follow its creator on Twitter, Loren Ridinger. She’s one of those female entrepreneur heavyweights who is super positive and inspiring to follow (I don’t take to following bloggers or people on Facebook or Twitter that are “Negative Nancy’s!”).  The brand also collaborates with LaLa Anthony, whose makeup is always spot on every time I see her in one of my fave celeb magazines.  So I had high hopes for these products before even unwrapping them!!

 I was able to use most of the products I was sent for review to create a red hot look to go with my vintage Atlanta Falcons shirt (seen at the end of this post!).  The Falcons, our local NFL football team for those who are wondering, were playing at the moment when I put this look together.  I was going to possibly have to reevaluate this blog post if they had lost their shot at a spot in the NFC championship game.  Luckily they won! Yes, you know I match my makeup to my outfits.  Moving on, ha!

{Happy lady face!}
Here’s a quick peek at how I used these Motive products to get me out of my makeup rut, plus my thoughts on each specific products at the end of the post.

 {A blend of the gold and deep red copper color.}

{Fall Winter 2012 Runway Collection quad palette, $29.95.}
I did start out by using an eyelid primer (not by Motives) to prep my lids before applying these shadows.  I know I should probably not do that to see how they truly perform, but I don’t go a day without my lid primer.  Why not give these products the best possible outcome??

I just used 2 of these 4 colors in the quad to create my look.  I cannot tell you how impressed I am with the pigment outcome with these shimmer shadows.  Super super rich!!!  I’m excited to give the sparkly charcoal and purple a chance now!  And apparently these can also be used wet, which I’m sure will give an even better and more dramatic outcome.

{Up close of how the 2 shadows, liner, and mascara pulled my look together.}

 {I did add the Khol Eyeliner in “Onyx,” $14.75, right along the upper lash line.}
Tip : So as to keep the black liner from looking too harsh, I added the coppery red color again on top of the liner to smudge it and give it a softer look.  It also helps with staying power to layer.

{Lustrafy waterproof mascara in black, $16.75.}

 {Pucker Up!}

This lip gloss had me a bit worried when I saw it (could I carry this off?) because I was thinking it might be too orange.  But the color actually turned out quite nicely and to be exactly the same color as my Falcon shirt – a HOT tomato type red!

{Lipshine in “Runway,” $16.50}
{Go Dirty Birds!!  PLEASE make it to the Super Bowl so my hubby will be happy!}

Here’s my personal breakdown of all the product specifics:

1. Eye shadow quad – Brilliant color and richly pigmented.  Good staying power. Lovely color pairings. Packaging wise, it’s not the fanciest or extremely original, but it does include a small mirror and tiny sponge applicator (which I always throw away because they never apply well – that’s the makeup snob in me!).   For $29 for all 4, I think it’s a decent price.
2.  Khol eye liner – Great color payoff, but it did run and smudge a bit when worn alone.  That’s why I layered it with the shadows to keep it staying put.  It’s a regular pencil that needs to be sharpened and I’m also into roll up liners at the moment, bc most pencils tend to tug on my eye.  However this one was pretty soft overall.  Packaging wise, nothing special.
3.  Mascara – Surprisingly thrilled with this one!  And you all KNOW how much I live and breathe for lashes and mascara!  It felt soft going on even though it was waterproof, not drying at all.  It also didn’t clump on me and separated my lashes amazingly well without having to use a lash comb! Major score.  Just look at my lashes in these pics – speaks for itself.  I like the short handle and tube because I feel I have more handle over the wand getting close to my eyes.  For $16, I think it’s a wonderful middle of the road price point for how well it performs.
4.  Lipshine – I actually love the square packaging, it was so chic. The formula was very glossy and highly pigmented.  The applicator was like a paint brush with very long bristles.  I also applied a lip insurance beforehand, here, just to make sure it didn’t run around my face.  It’s hard for me to dislike a lipgloss, and this one will get some action again!
What do you think of these Motives products?  Have you ever tried or heard of them?

*These products were sent to me for review and I was not paid for this posting.  All opinions are honest and my own.  I’d like thank Motives for the lovely box of goodies and I look forward to trying out the other shadow colors soon!*
