Happy Anniversary

They say 13 is an unlucky number.  I'm here to prove that is completely untrue because today I am celebrating what I consider to be 13 lucky years of marriage to my best friend.

I'm not hear to paint a picture like everything in our past 13 of years of marriage has been perfect, because picture perfect would be boring and we have grown stronger from our ups and downs.  Cliche, maybe, but very true. I think the downs and the way they are handled in a marriage, are a true testament of what your bond is really made of.  This man has had the best outlook on our trying times and it carried over into my views on everything and made me love him more.

I have found a partner in crime who truly gets me and cares for me (and our children) more than I thought humanly possible for one person.  Scott makes even ordinary moments more fun in our house.  He is an encourager who makes me and the kids feel like we can do anything and supports me in my decisions.  Even if he doesn't agree with them, he talks them through with me and never makes me feel like my ideas or ways of doing things are stupid.   Overall, Scott brings out the best in me and I hope I do for him as well.

I never could have dreamed that becoming parents would also make us so much stronger and closer.  Not to toot our own horn, but toot toot!, I think we're pretty fun parents to our three.

I mean these pics above shows that Scott helped me conquer my fear of heights with a zip lining tour and we as a family have a blast together (even in the car waiting out the rain!). We both have parents that are still together (mine just celebrated 45 years together) which I know is a pretty big deal nowadays.  Our parents have set a standard of what it means to love each other unconditionally and I think they are a great example for our relationship.  Like the Pooh bear quote above says that caring too much equates to love, I truly believe and feel that in our own marriage.  I definitely already pray and hope that my children never settle for anything less in choosing a spouse or relationship.

Even though we got married fairly young, me 23 and him 25, I guess we just got lucky that our hearts knew they were meant to be together.  I'm sure this sappy blog post has you a bit uncomfortable right now Scott but I just had to put it out there how much you mean to me.  Happy 13 years and cheers to many more.

Southern Blog Society Coffee Talk Recap

This past weekend I attended the 2nd annual Southern Blog Society Coffee Talk and it was F.U.N!!

Blogger friends from around the Atlanta area : Natalie, Kate, Elle, and Mae.
I've linked their blogs - def check these ladies out!

The cutest notebooks from Tiny Prints for us to doodle on.

I snuck up on the SBS co founders Cathy from Poor Little It Girl and Jessica from My Style Vita
while they were posing for the camera. Because that's what bloggers do.

Can I get some leg exercises advice from these ladies?? Wow!
Co founders Cathy and Jessica along with Lauren from Edit by Lauren
Remember this great post she did for my readers?!

Awesome vendors like ASOS (cool chic clothing for great prices!) & Kendra Scott (crazy glam jewelry line) who handed out goodies to all of us attendees.

The acrylic moon and lola hashtag necklace we got in our swag bag. Awesomely hilarious and relevant to bloggers.

My new favorite lip gloss, Sheer Love, by PLA Beauty we also received at the coffee talk.
(Future blog post on some of their other lipstick + glosses to come!)

The contents of my swag bag.  I'd say I racked up with some pretty cool stuff.

This was just the tip of the iceberg of what the Southern Blog Society weekend consisted of.  I missed out on the night before and the rest of the weekend which included a luncheon, pool party, and MORE swag items!! Not to sound greedy (but here it goes) I've been a little jealous of some of the other SBS bloggers I follow and seeing the oodles of other free stuff they got that attend the remainder of the weekend!

Thank you to Jessica and Cathy for gathering all of these wonderful and talented women together.  And for creating such an awesome environment to learn and play together in! I know it was hard work, but it certainly paid off!

If you are blogger living in the south, definitely check out becoming a member of The Southern Blog Society.  And maybe next year you can attend this awesome event!  I hope I can be a repeat attendee:)

How To Master The Bold Lip

Never underestimate the power of a BOLD SHADE OF LIPSTICK and what it can do for your face when you have little time (or the creativity) for anything else...

Shop My Look:
Lips : MAC "Flat Out Fabulous" | Eyes : Anastasia Brow Wiz in Soft Brown, Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette (colors used - "strange" all over, "burnout" lashes to crease, "factory" in the crease only  Cover Girl Lash Blast mascara |  Skin:  Nars "Mata Hari" blush, Maybelline Dream Smooth Mousse, Too Faced Primed & Poreless Primer, Bobbi Brown Pink Quartz Shimmer Brick (on tops of cheekbones and bridge of nose)

The easiest way for me to feel fancy in a split second, is to put on a look-at-me lipstick.  I can be wearing the most minimal amount of makeup and a simple slicked back ponytail (which is seriously the result of 3 days worth of no time to wash my hair) and when that bold lip color is swiped on, I immediately feel put together.  I know it seems scary if you are a minimal makeup gal, but you're probably the perfect person to pull this look off then!!

Don't doubt yourself when it comes to trying out this look.  Here are my keys to to making it work:

1.  If you are a newbie to a daring lip, go for a matte or semi matte formula (which means no shine).  A matte formula looks a bit more sophisticated on everyone when choosing a bold color which makes it a bit easier to pull off without look cheesy.
2.  Skip the lip liner, add a coat of your foundation over your lips before applying.  Keep it fresh and youthful without the stuffy perfect lip liner, who has time for that anyway!  Wiping your foundation over your lips while you're doing your skin will also help give the lipstick a clean base to make the color pop!
3.  Choose a blush with similar undertones to your bold lip choice.  I chose the Mata Hari bc it has a purple-plum base that my fuchsia lipstick also had.  They don't need to be copycat shades, just close in color.
4.  Keep the eyes very simple. This means you can skip the eyeliner, use a couple of neutral shades of shadow (feel free to make one of them a shimmer!) and load on the mascara!

Do you go for BOLD?  What is your go-to shade?

Monday Beauty Mantra

"Andy Warhol realized ART could take any form.
Putting on your MAKEUP is kind of a self portrait."
Francois Nars, creator of Nars Cosmetics

This photo was a car-makeup-selfie-check before I arrived at the Coffee Talk hosted by the Southern Blog Society I attended this weekend at the W Buckhead hotel. (If you are a southern blogger, you should def check out becoming a member.  A fun recap of the event will be posted on my blog later this week!).

As a makeup artist, beauty blogger, and female who just all around adores what cosmetics can do for my self confidence, it really is all about using your makeup to express who you are or what you want to be that day.  I had to pull my look together for a 6am drive into Atlanta that morning, and was thankful that my green eyeshadow (MAC "Club"- seriously an all time fave greenish-brown I've owned and re-purchased for the past 5 years!) and liner combo (a recently discontinued Revlon green - boo) I picked helped make me look more awake than I really was!

Makeup is all about experimentation, playing around, and working with different products until you find that just right shade or techniques that make you feel most like you.  And if at first you don't succeed, try try again. That's why God made eye makeup remover and face wash:)

BodyBrite Pure Oxygen Facial Review

I recently had the opportunity to try out an oxygen facial at my local BodyBrite franchise here in Athens.  Which honestly when I heard the description was a bit wary.   They were going to shoot oxygen into my skin??  Well yes, kind of...

^^The tools and skincare products used on me during the treatment.^^

^^The big ole oxygen machine!^^

^^ Car selfie - My skin AFTER treatment was completed.  Makeup free (okay tinted lip balm + leftover mascara) and the pics really don't do it justice.
It really was glow-y and very dewy looking!^^

^^ From left to right - Owner Annie, and Christy who performed my treatment.^^

*I'm really taking one for the team here people posting these pictures sans makeup! Hahaha!*

The 45 minute oxygen facial proved to be more relaxing than expected.  On their official website it is marketed as:
After the age of 25, the skin's normal oxygen supply decreases and skin loses up to 65% of its moisture content, resulting in a tired, dull complexion. We’ll put that life-giving oxygen back into your skin, neutralizing free-radicals, strengthening the immune system against acne-causing bacteria and fighting skin redness, wrinkles and pigmentation. Adding back oxygen also strengthens your existing collagen and elastin, which keep your skin young and dewy.
In the DermaOxy O2 treatment, concentrated oxygen combined with five different herbal mixtures is sprayed on the face and décolleté. This cocktail penetrates deep and delights the skin, smoothing it from the inside out to stimulate blood circulation and cell renewal.
My Experience :
  • There is no soothing music like in a typical spa atmosphere but the hum of the big oxygen machine is enough white noise to put you to sleep.  However with me I was asking questions the entire time so no sleeping here - but between the questions in my head, I felt myself dozing.
  • When it came to the oxygen part with a tiny blower (looks like an airbrush makeup  stylus) that pushed O2 into my skin, I had a tickle takeover.  I could NOT stop giggling bc it tickled so bad on me!! I was actually kind of embarrassed but couldn't help myself.  I think I gave Christy a big kick that I couldn't pull it together.  She said it doesn't usually have that effect on people so guess I am the exception!
  • My facial consisted of skin cleaning, serums, moisturizing, exfoliating, and this cool flat instrument (above) that rolled the products in and felt awesome.
  • The description of the facial on the website says it goes all the way down to the décolleté (chest) however my treatment didn't go past my neck.
  • The after look of my skin was beautiful and glowing.  I have dry skin, so this treatment kept it feeling super hydrated and dewy throughout the rest of the day which I loved.
They said the oxygen facial is a great treatment for brides the day of their wedding and that makeup goes on really smoothly afterwards.  I however chose to go makeup-less the rest of the day and let my skin enjoy the rest since I'm ALWAYS caking on the makeup.  Overall, this wasn't the type of facial experience I am used to.  Typically my facials are done in a spa atmosphere which involves low lit rooms, soothing music playing, the smell of candles burning, and cushy bathrobes followed by hot tea or a glass of water.  The BodyBrite facial is more about the facial without all of those other bells and whistles, with a clean and bright simple interior.  You have to get that elaborate spa environment out of your head and realize you're there JUST for the treatment and not the ambience.

Three other treatments offered at BodyBrite include their most popular, which is HAIR REMOVAL then SKIN REJUVENATION and TEETH WHITENING.  All of their facials are performed by licensed estheticians.  Big thanks to Christy who did my treatment (and answered all of my annoying questions!!) and to the owner Annie who has had this business for 2 years and was also super friendly and welcoming.   After chatting with them both about their successful hair removal treatments, I'm thinking seriously that underarm hair is the next to go!

Follow them on Facebook here to find out specials they are constantly having - just saw that this same oxygen facial is HALF PRICE ($44.50) thru this Saturday the 12th of July!!

Have you visited a BodyBrite before?

Help PRIMP Grow! : Empower The Mobile Beauty Shopping Cause

I believe in the entrepreneurial spirit of women. I believe that cosmetics and beauty products are a simple way to make us feel like better versions of our natural selves.  I believe we should be able to shop the vast beauty aisles of a department store and/or drugstore without being completely overwhelmed and confused.
I believe there is an app for that - it's FREE and it is called Pretty In My Pocket.  It is now looking to expand its audience and provide more help to the masses through a crowd funded project with Plum Alley.

You MUST watch this short video above by the female creator, Caroline Van Sickle.  She is not a makeup professional, just an everyday woman who saw a gap in the beauty market and wants to fill it to make our lives easier when it comes to shopping for our beloved beauty products.  Especially when there is no one in a one mile radius around you in the makeup aisle at Target and you just need to find that right lipstick or eyeshadow in a hot minute or find honest reviews on a product from real women, not the advertisers.  The bar code scanner on this app is your saving grace when it comes to this issue!  I'm obsessed with it.

Although I am a makeup artist and beauty blogger, I am still just as curious as you when it comes to various products on the market when I'm in a store and there is nobody from that specific brand around to help me or answer my questions.
What I provide on the PRIMP app as one of their Power Primper experts (as well as some of your other favorite beauty bloggers + professional makeup artists from around the country) is : 1. A collection of my own personal PHOTOS of looks I have created, 2.  Honest REVIEWS on products I have purchased and used, and 3. "MY BAG" which contains my very favorite products I can't live without for you to look through!

Pretty In My Pocket has partnered with Plum Alley to run this crowd funding project to help them grow!  So I'm here to spread the word because I truly believe in this product and it's future.  I know since I'm an expert for this app, people might assume I get paid for this post or to say these things.  I do not.  Not a penny.  But I believe in the entrepreneurial spirit of women like Caroline and I fully support anything that is being designed to make our lives easier and more cost efficient when it comes to making purchase decisions on our must have beauty products.  If this app grows and reaches more women, that means more beauty brands jump on board to offer "perks" (discounts/coupons) to us right from our phones (no annoying paper trail).  And that means I do make money, because I am saving on the things I would already be buying!

PRIMP is the FREE mobile beauty shopping tool that is going to revolution how we discover and get rewarded while we shop.  Please donate if you are a fan of the app or if you are in support of women-owned startups.  Remember, NO amount of support is too small!!

Photos From Washington D.C. Part 2

Here is part 2 of 2 of photos from our travels to Washington D.C..  (Part 1 right here if you missed it!) I already love looking back at these pics and reminiscing even though it was just a couple of days ago!

^^If you follow me on Instagram, you already saw this lovely pic.  What is a family vacation without a little attitude?!! I like to caption this one, "IMAGINE a family vacation with no meltdowns!"^^

^^Great pizza place rec around the Capitol Hill area, called We, The Pizza which was created by a Top Chef contestant Spike Mendelsohn.  I highly recommend the chicken and andouille slice - out of this world super yummy and creative pizza options!^^

^^ The Capitol is WAY bigger than it looks on TV!!^^

^^ How do you get around in a big city like D.C.?  Why Uber of course!! My kids were thrilled to not have to sit in car seats and to get to ride in mini vans - HA! We found it actually cheaper, more efficient, and a thousand times cleaner than the metro or cabs.^^

^^Paddle boating to the Jefferson Memorial.  Cool, but not as relaxing as it looks when you have small people that do little, to no paddling!!^^

^^ We went to a Nationals game because what's more American than a good ole baseball game?!^^

^^Thumbs up from Walker with his "W" Nationals hat, thumbs down from the Braves fans!^^

^^Took a visit to Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, which was such a neat place on the water!!^^

^^Got to visit with a friend I've known since elementary school who lives up in the Virginia area which made this trip even more special! We hadn't seen each others children in person since our oldest ones were born, so that was such a neat experience!  Wish we were closer in distance Claire!!
I love how you can pick right up with old friends despite the years being apart.  Obviously the sun was not Vivian's friend in this pic -HA Ha!^^

^^Goofing off was a big part of this vacation.^^

^^On the plane ride home, we realized that our last row seats had NO window view! This was a huge bummer for the kids, but luckily Vivian ended up falling asleep 15 minutes once
we got off the ground. ^^

Overall, D.C. was a huge success and I would highly recommend it to anyone that with kids.  The history of the place is amazing and it's so neat to experience all of the monuments and buildings you see in your textbooks and on TV.  Truly a great city to visit and I would definitely go back again.

Photos From Washington D.C. Part 1

The 5 of us are traveling to Washington D.C., and for 4 out of the 5 of us, it's our first time.  Hence the lack in posts lately due to preparing for this trip and actual travel!  We have gotten incredibly lucky with the weather (not as hot as I had heard it could/should be) and there is more to do in one weekend than we can see, but we are doing out best to live it up!  Here are some photos from our journey so far...

^^Washington Monument^^

^^ Something magical about flying through the clouds for even me as an adult!^^

^^We are staying at the Fairmont Washington D.C. and it has been a wonderful experience!
The kids got a welcome treat of some of the best chocolate chip cookies EVER delivered to our room!  What a way to start the trip. ^^

^^There are ice cream trucks on EVERY corner which is a brilliant business move in this touristy city.  Our kids think this is a real novelty and don't allow us to ignore these frozen treats, so we have enjoyed our fair share of ice cream so far.^^

^^The amount of go go going we did on the first day proved slightly exhausting to Vivian and Walker who BOTH fell asleep while in the Air & Space Museum!!^^

^^Must eat at the Old Ebbitt Grill thanks to a fab family friendly recommendation from my blogger friend Cathy at Poor Little It Girl.  (It pays to know bloggers in different cities to get great recs from!) Jack deemed their massive PB&J the "best he's ever had" and he's eaten a lot of them in his life time! *TIP* Get a reservation ahead of time if you're thinking about coming - it was PACKED so I was glad we did that without having to wait with 3 kids! ^^

Makeup from the first two nights in town, wearing my Esqido mink lashes in style "Unforgettable" in both looks.  Remember, my JennySue Makeup readers can get 10% OFF any purchase of their lashes right now using the code : BEAUTIFUL at checkout! ^^^

^^ World War II memorial was just breathtaking. My husbands grandfather and mine both served in it, so it felt extra special to be walking around this tribute.^^

^^The big July 4th day parade along Constitution Ave.^^

Our meal on July 4th at The Palm restaurant proved to be a bit nutty as we were all exhausted from a full day of sightseeing and still trying to stay awake for the fireworks!  They put us in the way back of the restaurant, ha!! Probably pretty smart seeing our crew.

BIG THANKS to Andy our concierge at the Fairmont Hotel for probably the BEST ADVICE so far on where to watch the fireworks without having to get in all of the madness at the National Mall or the Monument.  He told us to go to 19th street between M and Dupont Circle, which was the perfect spot to see the fireworks being shot off, minus the crowds, and we just sat outside at a restaurant, had a glass of wine and let the kids run around.  It was perfect.

Let's keep this vacation going. Still lots to do and see...
