(Sleep mask with lashes I ordered from The Sleepy Cottage on Etsy. Very reminiscent of the Breakfast at Tiffany’s one right??)
Night time is the best time for your skin. According to many studies, new skin cells grow faster while you sleep, so a consistent evening facial routine is of great importance.
It gives us a chance to rest our delicate skin away from the sun and the outside elements which do very little good for us as we now know. And getting enough sleep is one of the keys to a better frame of mind, fewer dark circles (hello better circulation while you sleep!), weight control, and our overall health. Hence the cute silky sleep mask:)
My products left to right :: Face wash : Paula’s Choice Resist Hydrating Cleanser / Argan Oil : Physician’s Formula Argan Glow Oil / Night cream : Aveeno Ultra Calming Nourishing Night Cream / Anti-Aging : Paula’s Choice Clinical 1% Retinol Treatment
Today I am sharing my night time skin care habits and the products I am currently using for my dry alligator skin. Disclaimer – my skin is bullet proof. I am not afraid to try or use high powered ingredients such as retinol or acids bc my skin can take it. Some of these products might be too much for you if you have sensitive skin, just FYI. Ok, just had to put that out there!
1. WASH the days makeup away with a cleanser for dry skin (creams are typically best like this Paula’s Choice one, $18) along with my Clarisonic Mia, $99. There is no other way to wash my face – I’m addicted to my Clarisonic, feels so good and really deep cleans unlike a wimpy washcloth. I do not use it in the morning however. There can be to much of a good thing and you don’t want to start stripping your natural oils of your face by over-washing.
2. Start with an OIL. If you have super annoying dry skin like me, you will love the newest Physician’s Formula Argan Oil, $15. My skin drinks it up and it feels great!! I slather it all over my eyelashes and eyebeds too for conditioning purposes and acts as an eye cream. You can also use it on the ends of your hair if you have dryness and breakage. It’s not called “liquid gold” for nothing!
3. Don’t forget your NIGHT CREAM. The brand new Aveeno Calming cream, $14, is one of my new faves because it is gentle (oat complex) and super nourishing with no heavy perfumey smell at all. I like it’s lightweight feel that sinks in quickly to reveal a healthy skin texture. And do not forget to carry your night cream and your argan oil all the way down your neck and to your chest!! An old, wrinkly, dehydrated neck is a dead giveaway of your age and that you took a shortcut on your skincare routine.
4. Add in an ANTI AGING PRODUCT. Now this Paula’s Choice retinol treatment, $55, I only use every other night (and only at night) as suggested and I use it before my night cream. It’s pretty powerful stuff and we know that retinol is a powerhouse ingredient because it helps with skin firmness, wrinkles, skin discoloration, and breakouts. I am a devoted fan to retinol and will use it to the very end for more youthful looking skin.
I am still working on getting in the 8-10 hours of sleep thing. Hopefully once my kids start back school next week, we can turn that into a reality since everyone will have to be on a stricter schedule. I love them dearly but I’m ready for an early 7:30pm bedtime and 6:30am wake up! This will no doubt make me take going to bed earlier a little more seriously. But despite my lack of sleep right now, I’m at least keeping up with my skincare routine!
