Whether you’ll be celebrating Valentine’s day with your significant other OR you’re celebrating that you’re single and ready to mingle, it’s a GREAT excuse to try out your ROMANTIC MAKEUP SIDE.
My hubby and I have agreed not to put any expectations on each other for this holiday over the past couple of years (but I do love fresh flowers from Trader Joes, wink wink) but that doesn’t mean we don’t celebrate! We always go out to a nicer dinner, but usually incorporate our 3 kids in that romantic dinner with us. But hey, that doesn’t stop me from stepping up my smoking’ hot makeup game.
When you start brainstorming your Valentine’s Day beauty look, I’ve rounded up some of my fave makeup looks from top red carpet vixens that I have also channeled myself over past posts. Aaaand I’ve made sure they’re easy enough to do at home so you can be the most confident version of yourself when cupid comes to town.
#1. SHIMMERY EYES.
There’s nothing better than to have a glimmer in your eyes when it comes to day of love. Make your eyes smolder by creating a subtle smokey eye with light colored metallics like gold on J.Lo or rose gold on me – blog post on my look HERE. Light colored metallics are much softer to wear than a harsh black or gray smoky eye. Oh and don’t forget to load on the mascara to frame those peepers!!
TIP : Just make sure you add some concealer or eyelid primer on your lids first and let dry before you apply the shimmer so it’ll stay all day! My fave primer is this one by MAC 24 hr Eye Base and some really great glitter/shimmer shadows are Tarte’s metallic shadows. If you’re not comfortable with all around shadow, just try a metallic eyeliner swept across the upper lash line for just enough shine.
#2. PRETTY FLUSHED CHEEKS.
A touch of pink to the cheeks is ALWAYS a good idea. Even if it’s just a regular Tuesday! Flushed pink cheeks give your complexion and face so much life and is one of the prettiest ways to get the look of love. I mean it was a good enough look for the real life Cinderella Lily James above, it’s good enough for me and you.
TIP : Use a slanted blush brush, like this $4 one here, and take your pink blush sweeping up towards the upper part of your ear to give you a slight face lift!! My ultimate favorite pink shade is included in this It Cosmetics Je Ne Sais Quois palette that I did a video on HERE. (I also show you how to add highlighter into the cheek mix too!)
#3. BOLD PINK LIPS.
Red lips are the obvious Valentines choice, so go for a hot pink lip instead! It’s the perfect nod to this holiday. You can go more towards the fuchsia pink like Emma Stone, or more berry pink and glossy like Charlize Theron.
TIP : To make your lips more kissable, be sure to have a smooth surface to start with! No one likes chapped flaky lips, neither does your lip product. Exfoliate those lips with a lip scrub like this yummy peppermint one from tarte. Then find a matching lip liner to put underneath your lipstick or gloss first to keep it staying put. Remember to color in your lips completely with the liner and not just the outline. My all time favorite bold and bright pink lip is Nar’s “Schiap.” It’s a classic!!
