Liner : MAC “Dervish” (mauve) // Lipsticks : MAC “Angel” (soft pink w a hint of frost) & “Velvet Teddy” (matte beige based pink)
Getting the perfect neutral pink lipstick and liner combo is a look most women need to have in their beauty routine. A swipe of pink lipstick is an effortless way to look like you actually made SOME effort!
After posting a few of these above pics on my Instagram wearing these products, I got a crazy good response from my followers asking “what color lip are you wearing?” So I figured I needed to actually share these products on the blog for you!! I guess everyone loves a great wearable pink lip!
The challenge seems to be finding those shades of pink that compliment your skin tone. It’s all about matching the right shade of lipstick – which is neither too colorful, overpowering, OR too washed out, with the right shade of liner. When going for a neutral lip combo I worry more about one washing myself out, than it being too bright, personally:)
When to use a lip liner?
Sometimes I don’t bother using a lip pencil if I want a more sheer wash of color. It’s a more casual look this way. However, if I want my neutral pink lipstick to be a little more polished and defined, I will always use the liner with the lipstick shade.
This “Dervish” pencil can actually be used alone as well to create a really pretty mauve-y pink lip. Just color in the entire lip then add a chapstick or clear gloss on top and it works beautifully! It’s a mauve based pink but on the more neutral side in my opinion. The reason I would use it before lipstick would be as a lip stain that helps with maximum staying power. It basically looks like my lip color, but bumped up a notch!
“Angel” and “Velvet Teddy” are my two favorite pinks of the moment. I would say that the slightly frosty Angel is better for more fair to medium skin tones, and the Velvet Teddy is perfect for light/medium to darker skin tones and has a matte finish. But the lip pencil is great for both!!
As always, a great neutral pink lipstick and liner should always give your face life, and not drain it!
